SPARK Design Studio was founded in 2004 by Thomas Pedersen. SPARK has over the years worked with a variety of furniture design and accessories with focus on creating long lasting designs which hold a high standard of quality and ecology. SPARK tries to preserve the Scandinavian design tradition by using high quality materials and renew the shape without removing the focus from functionality. With unusual innovations in material and construction including references to historical designs, SPARK is both unconventional yet rooted in tradition. SPARKs award-winning designs always have a functional starting point from which their more elaborate organic shapes emerge.
"SPARK Design Studio are committed to joining experimental ideas and perfect comfort to create the best possible design. Our passion is to create products that embrace the body. No matter the project we always give the same attention to comfort and detail to meet our own demands and make sure we always give our best.”
Nathan Yong graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in Industrial Design in 1991. He began his career not as a designer, but as a buyer as well as engaging in product development for various companies in Singapore. Through these jobs, he travelled to various countries including India, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia to source for quality manufacturers and craftsmen to develop and manufacture furniture and home accessories. Through this exposure, he learnt various production techniques and crafts.
His work is inspired by observation of the visual environment, and then challenges the existential questions of the objects. Instead of superfluous details, he captures the poetry of products through a stripping process, lending object qualities that are informed by a lightness of restraints.
Currently based in Singapore, Nathan runs an industrial design consultancy practice.
Henrik Pedersen graduated as a fashion designer in 1990, but uses his education for many different types of design. His interest in mathematics and his extensive experience give him an intuitive ability to quickly figure out whether a new design will work or not.
'Experience and knowledge help, but the difference lies in how you use it. You can get far with common sense and a passion for the craft.'

Our philosophy is to stand out from the crowd: “To note something, to get noticed: we are named after what we try to achieve. We like to pay attention to our surroundings, and try to create things that make others do the same.
By looking at what is unique in every project and emphasizing that, we transform non-material values into tactile objects and spaces.”
